Sustainable environment solutions on the local level

I am fascinated by how simple inventions can make a great impact. As a lover, admirer and hopeful developer of simple technology that improves our global communities, when I stumbled upon “A liter of light”, let’s just say I was blown away by the sheer brilliance. By brilliance I mean ingenuity to implement a simple idea on a large scale and the bright light that a liter bottle filled with water and stuck in a roof can bring to the livelihood of so many homes and people. No more use for words, you gotta see it.

The idea was first implemented in the Phillipines and the MY Shelter Foundation spread the idea to other nations, creating bases in Peru, Colombia, the Netherlands even showcasing it as TEDX Earth Summit in Dubai. On their site A Liter of Light, the My Shelter Foundation states, “The Liter of Light began in the Philippines with one bottle light. Eventually, the movement grew to brighten up 28,000 homes and the lives of 70,000 people in Metro Manila alone. Now Liter of Light is present in India, Indonesia, and even as far away as Switzerland.”

This is awesome and along the lines of what I want to do with my career, create innovative technologies and solutions that can be implemented on the grassroots level. Not only does the technology improve the environment, it provides light in homes that can not affort it.
